Snowboarding Definitions
Words Definitions

180, 360, 720, 1080 These are all describing how far someone was able to turn around on a jump. The 180 is the easiest and you can work your way up.

Air The amount of height a person gets on their jump. If it is a large jump just then they got "big air".

Bindings These are the little guys that strap your feet to your board. You gotta have these if you are wanting to get up to the mountain. There are also newer types of these bindigns called "click ins"

Carving These are the little guys that strap your feet to your board. You gotta have these if you are wanting to get up to the mountain. There are also newer types of these bindings called "click ins"

Click Ins These are the newest of the Binding family in which all it takes to get straped in is to step down on the board, like a ski. They are good if you are looking to save time strapping in so you can get some more boarding in.

Grab This is when a boarder - while in mid-air - makes a grab anywhere on his or her board. There are different names depending on the area in which he or she grabed the board, and how they do it.

Halfpipe This is a semi-circle carved in the snow in which boarders ride up and down on each side hitting jumps off each side which is known as the LIP.

Hash This is SNOW, there are so many names used to describe snow thats its hard to keep up with them. I am only naming a few.

Lift I think everyone knows what this is. This is the chair that takes you up the mountain. A.k.a. ski lift.

Lip The lip is the rim along the top of a halfpipe.

Mashed Potatoes This is a term used when the snow is not very smooth, instead it is lumpy like "mased potatoes"

Phat This is another word snowboarders tend to use to say to something that is good. If something is PHAT it is sweet!

Powder I think we all know what powder is. It's a snowboarders dream. It is some sweet snow that is extremely light and fluffy, making any day look up.

Rush A rush is an extremely good time condensed into a few minutes.

Stoked To be extremly excited, like when you very first arrive at the mountain and all is good.

Verticle (vert) The vert is the verticle page of a halfpipe. Without this part the boarder wouldn't be able to stay in the halfpipe and perform some tricks.
